Update – October 7, 2021
Quick update and lots to cover…
The last load has arrived. It was the one that was supposed to be here last week and ended up being delayed another week, because of course it was. Here is what it contained:
Scarecrow Sitters, Character Face Plates, Candy Corn Bowls, JOL Teapots and Teacups, Mummy Mugs
As of today, all pre orders will be filled and sent out in a week. That includes the remaining partial ships. Done Done Done! That’s the good news.
Now for the bad.
The factory that has been manufacturing these pieces has shut down due to electricity and labor shortages and so 8 designs have been cancelled from here on out. That affects my order with 3 of my items now no longer coming:
Frankenstein Mugs, Black Cat Shakers, Candy Corn Plates
If your order contained any of these 3 items, you will receive a refund at the time that your order ships and will receive an email to confirm. I’m bummed but at this point, I’m actually surprised that it didn’t end up being more. I’m thankful for what has arrived because not every shop has been as lucky. That is not to say that you can’t find these items with another shop. I just won’t be getting them.
With all that being said, I am no longer offering cancellations. I want these items out of here and while I allowed a handful of people to be refunded, I am now exercising my terms that everyone agreed to when they pre ordered and that is “no refunds or cancellations on pre orders”. When you ordered it, I ordered it. Everyone will have their orders out within a week and before Halloween. We are all operating more than 2 months behind due to delays and it’s not my fault or any other shops. So if you are emailing me only to ask for that, I’m not responding. Your order will just be shipped.
I knew I was going to get an influx of emails requesting cancellations when the latest pictures hit social media showing the new products arriving at Ross stores, mainly Gus the cookie jar. That for me was the last straw. I called Transpac that day and cancelled all of my remaining preorders with them. Gus the Cookie Jar and the Christmas line.
After this final week of shipments and extra inventory, I will no longer be offering Johanna Parker products. This is something I don’t want to be a part of anymore. I will be offering a “shop in person” option to my locals to help move the product faster before I update the site.
Just to be clear..I have NOT cancelled any of my Bethany Lowe orders and will not. They might be taking the longest but at least I don’t have to see their products showing up in big box stores while we get jipped. And their quality is absolutely superb. I will continue to carry their products and would like to expand into more through them. As far as Johanna’s designs through Bethany Lowe go, I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do. I need to wait and feel things out. My desire is to get out from under this craze all together but I also don’t want to make a definitive decision just yet.
I have a bunch of emails that I haven’t gotten to because I don’t have time and neither does my husband. Just know that your order will be out very soon. Anyone with a damage claim or issue will be responded to as soon as we can.
Update – September 29, 2021
Hey everyone! A quick update and bit of a rant. First things first…
Yes, orders are shipping daily!! We have hundreds to fill and are working though thousands of products all at the same time looking for defects, breakage etc. In a normal situation, I would do all that first, making shipping that much easier because I can just grab and go. I just simply don’t have time to do any of that. The next shipment is due to arrive tomorrow but since the last shipments always came a day later than the tracking said, it could be Friday.
This next load will contain the following: Scarecrow Sitters, Character Face Plates, Candy Corn Bowls, JOL Teapot and Tea Cups, Mummy Mugs.
That leaves the Frankenstein Mugs, Black Cat Shakers and Candy Corn Plates as our last items still delayed. I do not have an ETA on them yet.
While I completely understand everyone’s excitement and anxiousness to receive their items in time for the season, it is physically impossible to pack and ship everyone’s order in a day. It’s strenuous and time consuming and we are working as fast as we can and getting as many out each day as possible. The timeframe that the shops have been given to fulfill these orders is quite literally the worst it could be. Had the items arrived in June/July as originally planned, I know the urgency would have been toned down quite a bit but unfortunately the items only started arriving to me mid-September and now have people in such a frenzy because October is right around the corner. This hasn’t been ideal for literally anyone involved. Not the distributors, shops, customers..nobody. My sweet Rep at Transpac told me I’m pretty much the only client she’s got that isn’t screaming at her and cussing her out all the time. How sad. Everyone is under tremendous pressure right now and just looking for someone to blame.
I am getting hundreds of emails right now. They were slowing me down so much, that I literally had to stop responding. It was eating hours of my packing time in order to answer over and over again the same response. My wonderful husband has had to step in just to handle those and can only get to it at night because he runs our main business during the day. I am currently set up in the basement of the house we are building running on battery pack lights and generators. I’m so thankful for this set up at least, because we are currently living in fifth wheels on our property while waiting for our house to get finished. I couldn’t do all of this in a camper. We are busy all around but right now my one and only goal is to get these orders out and to be done FOREVER with this nightmare. I am currently half-finished fulfilling orders.
And now a (little) rant in case that wasn’t enough.
I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a more stressful and disheartening time as a small business owner than I have this year. I thought last year when half of my orders never got produced was as bad as it could get. I was very wrong. I regret doing pre orders again and know that I have already announced that I won’t be offering them anymore.
I have sold Johanna’s products for several years now and was so thrilled to discover this beautiful collection from a random Pinterest post of her Christmas pieces. I love coming across things like that and searching them out to buy. It’s even better when I can figure out who the distributor is and see if I can purchase for my shop. Win, win! Sure enough that’s what happened and then I stumbled on the Halloween line as well. I was just coming into what was already the start of her rise into the mainstream market. It was really thrilling because with that came more and more designs! Fast forward to today and I can say that I think she has officially taken over the “must have collection” status that Rae Dunn once had.
As a very small operation, I cannot, however, keep up with the craze. It’s been all consuming and I’m simply miserable. I started The Primrose Market as a creative outlet and it has now become something not even close to that. I don’t have the time or energy to create anything or even work on expanding the “Home and Garden” that is in my tagline. And that’s not to say even product wise. The supply chain issue spans well beyond ceramic decor. The actual crisis is one that has only began to rear its ugly head. I don’t think enough people realize what’s about to hit. Right now it’s Halloween decorations but very soon it’s going to be a whole lot more. There are consequences to shutting down complete economies and supply chains, but I digress. What everyone is experiencing right now with the pre orders, is only going to get worse into 2022 and I have no plan to be a part of it. I do of course have very small JP Christmas and Gus orders that I plan to keep but I am still contemplating if that will be my last run with these products. That’s where I’m at right now.
The overall quality has went downhill very fast. I’m very disappointed with what I’m seeing. I have to dig through boxes and boxes to find usable products and even then, the pickiness of some people is just exhausting. I have a table where I just dump items that need touch ups in order to ship. My husband looks at them and can’t understand what’s wrong with it. I have to point out tiny marks here and there in the paint or glaze that I just know I’ll get a complaint email about. He’s as baffled as I am because I know that if that exact piece was found on a shelf in the thrill of the hunt, there would be zero complaints. But then of course, if it was found on a shelf at Homegoods or Ross then it would be a fraction of the price that I’m charging and cheaper than what I even paid for it.
We get no warning that the same products we have ordered as boutique items will also start selling at the big box stores. They just send them and then we get stuck with the angry aftermath. If I would have known Homegoods was going to receive the same inventory before I even did, then I wouldn’t have bothered. They can sell it at below cost and still profit, because they can afford to order quantities the little guys/girls can’t in order to get those price cuts. That’s not a game I want to play anymore.
I think the most disheartening thing I’ve learned yet is that there are Johanna Parker collectors groups that are being used to bash all of us shops to one another. People can just sit and gripe and smear the names of people who are literally working their hardest right now to get through this and also maintain their lives outside of this. I can’t eat, sleep and breathe this every moment. I have a family and responsibilities that come first like any other business owner or human being.
I know right now is crunch time and we (shops) all have to buckle down and do the task at hand. It was always a reality no matter if the shipments came months ago like they were supposed to or not. This isn’t about making excuses but trying to maybe diffuse the anger and overall frenzy that so many are all worked up into right now. None of us had any control over when the items would arrive. Everyone is going to get their orders in the end. Maybe not before October 1st but pretty soon after which isn’t too bad considering these products could still be sitting in the ocean like so many other ones are like the Bethany Lowe line.
As I mentioned above, I’m halfway through the pre orders. If you still haven’t received your shipping email, please know it’s coming! Unfortunately, it is impossible to ship all of these out at once. I have customers who have interpreted that the arrival of the products to mean that all shipments go out automatically. I wish that were possible but unfortunately, someone is first and someone has to be last. At this point, I have had several who have requested refunds and I have been happy to oblige. I get it and I know people are angry so it’s the least that I can do at this point. The waiting list that I have for these products is so long and I will be adding any extras back to the site once pre orders are done.
Transpac doesn’t have an endless supply. Once they are sold out for the year, they are gone so as the shops’ supplies dwindle down it will become harder to snag these. It happens every year. That’s usually when people get stuck having to pay triple the price to the upsellers so I would suggest that if you really want these at retail prices, they are worth the wait, even into October.
I hope this has helped give a little insight into my world and situation and would continue to ask for just a little more patience and time to get this done so we can all have relief! I also want to acknowledge that through the worst of this, I have continued to get some of the most kind and encouraging emails and messages from some of you that has helped me more than you’ll ever know. I’m so appreciative of you all.
If you’ve ordered from multiple shops, don’t forget to give them a little love too. I know they need it right now.
Update – September 18, 2021
The next shipment arrived and orders are shipping now! For the complete list of what is here, see below:
Mini Pumpkin Peeps, Harvest Critter Sitters, Halloween Peeps Collection, Candy Corn Shakers, Peek-A-Boo Pumpkin Figures, Ghost Candy Jars, Witch Candy Jars, Ghost Shakers, Halloween Cupcake Sitters, Jack-O-Lantern Shakers, Light Up Treat Sack Sitters, Light Up Cat Lanterns, Pumpkin Peep Mugs, Halloween Peep Mugs, Candy Corn Mug Sets, Candy Bowl Buddies, Scarecrow Mug Sets, Harvest Critter Mugs and Water Globes.
If your order can be completed with the items above, your order will be out this week. I am still waiting on an ETA of the remaining 9 items. Depending on how long this next stretch will be, I may ship out some partial orders. I’ll know more Monday. Partial shipping is tough and not something I offer due to high and fluctuating shipping rates. Rates from January to now are very different and while those costs are calculated and planned for ahead of time, it’s still tough to try and keep costs low for the customer while also not bleeding profit in order to stay afloat. So please understand the reason for waiting for completed orders.
Orders are going out starting with January 1st preorders and on. Getting your treasures in time for seasonal decorating is my top priority. The amount of emails and messages that are coming through are very time consuming so I am doing my best to get back to everyone while also now getting orders shipped out as fast as possible. Please keep that in mind this week if you experience a delay in communication. I currently have several hundred orders to fill and want them out by the end of the month.
The orders for the weekend are already shipped and if yours was included, you should have received an email with tracking. I will be packing the rest of the weekend with the next batch of labels being printed Sunday night for Monday shipping. I anticipate getting a lot packed over the weekend so keep an eye out!
As always, everyone’s patience is is very appreciated,
Update – September 11, 2021
The next Transpac shipment is on the way! This next load will contain the following items:
Mini Pumpkin Peeps, Harvest Critter Sitters, Halloween Peeps Collection, Candy Corn Shakers, Peek-A-Boo Pumpkin Figures, Ghost Candy Jars, Witch Candy Jars, Ghost Shakers, Halloween Cupcake Sitters, Jack-O-Lantern Shakers, Light Up Treat Sack Sitters, Light Up Cat Lanterns
If your order can be completed with these new items coming in and the previous items from the last update, then your order will be shipped in this next batch. These items will complete the bulk of the remaining pre-orders but not all. After this we will still be waiting on 9 more designs to come in from Transpac. Remember, orders go out in the order they were received. Pre-Orders began on January, 1st so those will be the first to go out based on completion.
I’m really happy to see some major movement and still in time for Halloween decorating! I do not have any new info on the remaining items as of now but will keep updating as I learn more.
Update – September 2, 2021
Orders have begun going out this week! The first shipment from Transpac last week contained the following:
Pumpkin Peep Mugs, Halloween Peep Mugs, Candy Corn Mug Sets, Candy Bowl Buddies, Scarecrow Mug Sets, Harvest Critter Mugs and Water Globes. Any orders that could be completed with only those items are either shipped out or will be by the weekend.
Also, more good news is that even more product has arrived at Transpac and a huge chunk of my order is ready to ship out to me. I do not have the itemized list yet of what it contains but it should be out soon as it was being marked as a rush order. Fingers crossed that the Ghost candy jar and shakers will be included! Those little guys hold up a lot of orders right now.
Some of the Bethany Lowe items will be coming in tomorrow. Unfortunately, it’s not many items. The majority of the pre-order items are still delayed and will be for awhile. As I get more info on those, I will post here to update everyone.
That’s all for now!
Update – August 25, 2021
I think we can all agree that the delays that have came from the onset of Covid have been a nightmare! As a small business, I’m still traumatized from 2020 and now… here we are.
The ocean freight industry has been in disarray for almost 2 years and with no end in sight. Last year the problem was production. This year, it’s getting the produced items from China to the U.S. The good news is that containers have begun to show up. Anything crossing over from China has caused a waiting game that I never want to be a part of again. Every week I read more news articles of main Chinese shipping ports either shutting down to half capacity or closing down all together due to Covid. Everytime I try to go shopping for groceries or everyday products, there’s at least a handful of items that are continuously out of stock and so I’m constantly reminded of the situation we are in. There are countless suppliers having to outbid one another to get their products on a ship to (hopefully) get them here in a timely manner. And yet the ships themselves are backed up with delays spanning weeks to months and are lost in queue waiting their turn to unload. When the pandemic started, we knew there would be problems to arise in every industry but I don’t know if anyone could have predicted how bad it was really going to be.
Today, I will finally, be receiving my first shipment of seven designs from Transpac. It’s a massive relief and bummer at the same time. I want nothing more than to get the products that my customers have been so excited about in their hands. I thought last year was the worst it could get, but I was very wrong. At this point the bonus is that we are dealing with products that have been produced, but are stuck in limbo. Last year more than half the items didn’t even get that far as chinese production factories shut down all together for months, so we are a step ahead in 2021.
While I can completely understand anyone being angry at this point, I would ask for extreme grace to be given to those of us running these small shops as we navigate these problems that not only we have never dealt with, but also the distributing companies that have been in business for 50+ years. We are all doing our best to navigate through this. I get emails almost daily from all the wholesale companies I deal with and they are constantly having to update us on the madness. And if delays aren’t bad enough, those daily emails also include the ever increasing freight surcharges that us shop owners are incurring everyday because those bids are getting expensive and someone has to eat that cost. Various products that I have had ordered for months now are going to cost me anywhere from 4-25% more than when I ordered them and they aren’t even here yet.
As a way to try and adjust, I have shut off paid pre-orders and have everything available as a waitlist option until it is physically here. Anyone with a paid pre-order will take precedence over everything else and as items come in and orders can be fulfilled, they will continue to ship in the order they were received. Because of the high volume of orders already in, processing and shipping times for any newer orders will likely be longer than the typical 1-3 day timeframe. As of today, the remaining Transpac items are still expected within the next couple of weeks. Bethany Lowe items are now delayed into September at the very least and October/November at the latest. I do have a small shipment coming to me from them, but do not have the itemized list yet on what to expect.
Once this first shipment arrives, I will be getting everything organized and inspected and hope to have the first shipments out the following day. I will also have the extras that will then go back onto the site and be available for immediate shipping. I will be updating the site to separate the Waitlist products from the In-Stock to make it easier to navigate. There won’t be many orders that can be completed with only these items, but there are some.
Effective immediately, I will no longer offer paid pre-orders. I will only offer the Waitlist option and would encourage you to add your email to anything you are interested in. Once the item arrives and is listed, you will receive an email to be one of the first to know! While I know that a lot of people that like the comfort of knowing their item is secured with payment, I simply cannot go through this again. I know that will ultimately cause me a loss in sales with all the competition that has popped up, but I’m willing to take that risk for my sanity and stress level and to not have other people’s money tied up for months on end. I have orders in for both Johanna Parker’s Christmas collection and the beloved Gus the Ghost Cookie Jar. As soon as those items are in, they will be available for purchase as a first come, first serve basis and…will ship immediately! That just sounds so much better to me and hopefully to you too!
I am so encouraged by so many of you that have become repeat customers and am beyond thankful for your patience and loyalty. While this situation is far from ideal, I can assure that any purchase with us ends with either a product in hand or in the event that a production problem arises, a complete refund. I will continue to update here so check back for the latest.
